Reading West Station

Reading West Station Upgrade

It was in January 2015 that Battle Councillors first floated the idea of upgrading West Reading Station. We had heard from residents who used the station that it was inaccessible for disabled people, it was a difficult place for people with small children and pushchairs as well as older people who were not so sure on their feet. In short it was not a very pleasant place to use. Our main station has just undergone a multi-million pound upgrade making it fit for the 21st Century. Battle Councillors decided it was time for Reading West Station to be brought into the 21st Century. This report sets out a joint strategy agreed by Battle Councillors, Reading Borough Council, Network Rail and Great Western Railway.

"Reading West Station Upgrade will provide a step change in passenger facilities at the
station and wider interchange, and create a visible presence on the Oxford Road. The scheme will improve the perception of safety and security in the local area and act as a catalyst for the economic regeneration of the Oxford Road local centre. In addition, it will deliver decongestion benefits to the local highway network through enhancements to the Oxford Road."
